ASTRO FILE MANAGER

What our users are saying:

Preferences
The preferences screen lets the user customize how ASTRO operates and allows the a user to change the defaults to meet his or her tastes and needs.
Look and Feel
The Look and Feel preferences set the defaults for how directories will be displayed. The first section is Directory Defaults. This section sets the default options for all directories. The options that can be set are:
  • View Type (List or Icon)
  • Show Thumbnails
  • Show File Details (List view only)
  • Hide File Extensions
  • Show Hidden Files - files that start with a period (.)
  • List Directories First

The Reset Directories button will clear all options that have been set for individual directories using the View / Set Directory Options dialog.

The other Look and Feel options that can be set are:
  • Font Size - for list views [Small, Medium, Large]
  • Animation - animate how files and directories are displayed. [Top, Bottom, Random, None]
  • Show scroll thumb- for large directories a scroll thumb is display by default for faster scrolling. Uncheck this option to hide it.
Toolbar Preferences
The Toolbar Preferences section lets the user choose the location of the toolbar, the number and order of the buttons, and the button style.
Toolbar Location - The toolbar can be display at the top or the bottom of the screen, or hidden.
Toolbar button style - Text, Icon, Both.
Buttons - Click on a button see the settings dialog for that button. Here you can enable or disable it, and change the order it is displayed in. The button preferences will be listed in the same order they are set to be displayed.
Home Directory
This is the directory that will be displayed when the Home button is pressed. You can check and set the value here. You can also set the home directory by long clicking on a directory and selecting Set As Home. The default value is /sdcard.
Backup Directory
This is the directory where the Application Manager will store the backed up applications. The default is /backups.
Edit File Extensions

This is an advanced feature. The File Extension Editor manages the mime types for each file extension. Before you edit any existing mime types, please be sure you understand the consequences or you could break the functionality of that file type.

To edit a file extension, just click on the extension, make the changes and click Save.

To add a new file extension, click the New Extension button, enter the extension name (without a period), The Mime Type and Subtype, and click save. This mime type will now be used when ever a file with this extension is clicked.

Cache
ASTRO keeps caches of man values to help things run faster. To clear memory these caches can be deleted. There are two types of caches: Thumbnail Cache and the Other Internal Caches. The thumbnail cache can become large if a user has enabled thumbnails and viewed many directories with a lot of images. The other internal caches generally do not take up much space. Either cache can be cleared by clicking the appropriate Clear button.
Home Screen Icons
A user can create shortcuts to the Tools on their home screen here. Simply check the tools you would like a shortcut to and ASTRO will create a shortcut icon for that tool directly on the Home screen.
Enable Browser Downloader
The Browser Downloader will allow the default Android web browser to download any file type. It is not enabled by default because this feature can also interfere with some other application operations such as Gmail previews. It is recommended to only enable this option when needed and disable it again as soon as the file downloads are complete.
Application Manager Preferences
Show Icons - uncheck to prevent icons from displaying in the Application Manager. Useful if you have a very large set of applications backed up on the phone.
